Natural sapphire grows with internal texture. Rutile silk, faint feathers, and colour zoning are normal in Sri Lankan crystal. Loupe-clean stones exist but they are not the majority of what comes out of Ratnapura gravels at sensible prices.
Silk looks like fine needles or a soft haze under magnification. A little silk can help colour by scattering light. Heavy silk lowers transparency and can make the stone look sleepy face-up. We use clarity grades and plain language in descriptions so you know which case you are looking at.
Inclusions are not always flaws. In portrait and artisan cuts we sometimes keep internal marks that belong to the design. Those stones are listed with honest clarity notes, not as eye-clean gems.
When you watch our turntable video, pause on the flashes where light crosses the table. That is often where inclusions show. If you need a stone for a high-clarity engagement ring, say so in your inquiry; we will point you to the cleanest options in stock.
